Verdant Atelier began in 2012 as a small propagation table tucked into a limestone courtyard in San Pawl il-Baħar. Founder Karla Vella — a botanist trained in Florence — started with a simple conviction: that the indoor environments we inhabit deserve the same care given to gardens.
Fourteen years on, the atelier collaborates with architects, hoteliers, and homeowners across Malta and the wider Mediterranean. Our team of horticulturists, designers, and craftspeople still works from that same courtyard.
We treat each specimen as a living collaborator — one that responds to light, humidity, and human attention. Our work is to listen carefully and place gently.
We take the time a space needs. Consultations begin with observation — light, airflow, the way mornings move through a room.
Where possible, we propagate on the islands. Mediterranean species thrive here, and shorter supply chains mean healthier plants.
Restraint is a design principle. One well-placed olive specimen often says more than a wall of foliage.
We visit the space, study its light, and learn how it is used. No proposals are written before this.
A curated palette of species and vessels is presented — drawn, photographed, and explained.
Our team places each piece by hand. Installations are considered architectural events.
Optional ongoing care keeps the composition healthy and evolving across seasons.
